Most first visits revolve around the Visitor Centre + shuttle process, then Dove Lake Circuit, with valley short walks when weather or energy fail. Progressive alpine options and the Overland Track are different sports. Do not try to collect every track on a first visit — especially not the summit.

Visitor Centre first

Parks Pass + shuttle access before any walk optimising. The day fails or succeeds at the car base, not on the summit ridge.

Day one rule

Do Dove Lake Circuit well. One essential walk beats three rushed epics — especially summit upgrades after a long circuit.

Weather bail-out

Cloud on the peak cancels Marion’s Lookout and summit, not valley boardwalks. Turning around is competence.
